Canoe trip on Smoke Lake in Algonquin Park July 6-12, 2024

The year rolled around again for our canoe trip in Algonquin Park with the same friends as last year.  This time would be more relaxing and uneventful.  The week was sunny and warm allowing us to swim and paddle; however, by mid-week, the remnants of a severe storm, the tail end of hurricane “Beryl” barreled through from the United States, and pounded rain all day causing puddles around our tents.  It poured so much and constantly that we had to stay standing up under the tarp where we were sitting, to dump the water off where it was heavily pooling.  We thought it would never end and so we started the conversation of cutting our trip short but by the end of the day, the sun came out and we were able to dry out our gear.  The following day, Jamie and I swam around this little island nearby while Scott followed us in his canoe.  We all had hammocks which were hung at the point overlooking the lake; this was our napping area.  It was lovely to simply rock in the hammock and observe nature.   It was nice to have time to hang out.  We did spend a day exploring other campsites by canoe and hiking to another portage area.  Most days I swam.  We prepared our own meals and always had plenty of food.  The week soon came to an end and it was time to pack up and leave.  Cathy had made it through the week without any incidents.  Once again, our friend Scott invited us for next year’s canoe trip in Algonquin Park, and of course, we said yes.
