While Cathy had to continue working, I had the opportunity to plan and join a road trip out in British Columbia with my sister and her friend Marilyn. We flew from Ottawa to Vancouver. We rented a car that would take us up the sunshine coast, connecting via ferries, to Power River and then over to Comox, Vancouver Island, travelling down the coastline and then over to the west side to see Ucluelet and Tofino. It was a beautiful trip seeing the quaint fishing villages, eating great food and the bonus was visiting family along the way. Top right here is an outline of our route. The sunshine stayed with us throughout the trip as we took in the sites. We got to see a bear on one of the trails and we also saw a deer in the parking lot of our hotel, where another bear was also scene sniffing around at night. We were able to stay a couple of days with my brother Sean and his family in Nanaimo. They fed us well with a feast off the barbecue, delicious and filling, both nights. During the day, we went walking some of their nearby trails and along the waterfront near the harbour. We continued south towards Victoria, stopping near Cobble Hill to hike across the historic Kinsol Trestle which has been restored as a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists. We stayed another couple of days in Victoria visiting my sister Veronica and her family and celebrated my sister Colleen’s birthday along with my nephew’s wife’s birthday. We were happy that we could spend the time together. We then continued by ferry back to the mainland where we visited with Marilyn’s son Jack. He was also able to spend the time with us, bringing us on hikes and to a rock gym that he wanted us to try. It was now time to head home. It was a successful trip, which always passes all too quickly.
